Travelling To Croagh Patrick
This is a route that is suitable for older kids. After your stop at the Heritage Center, the group will take the Clew Bay coastal cycle trail, a 12km cycle out to Murrisk and Croagh Patrick taking approximately two hours. This involves mix of on road cycling and a clearly marked on road cycle lane. The route is suitable for older kids more experienced cyclists.
Experience Real Irish History
On the tour along the coast, the first stop is at the 3000 year old megalithic standing stones aligned with the mountain – Croagh Patrick. The group then takes a turn into Murrisk hinterland – with a stop at the picnic area, at the monument to the fishing industry of old , and then on to Murrisk harbour and witness the on shore sea weed harvesting.
Book In Advance
The tour follows the Murrisk walk and cycle trail and comes out at Croagh Patrick hostel. Then cycle onto 14th century Murrisk Abbey on the shore of Clew Bay. Finally we visit the internationally renowned famine monument at the foot of Croagh Patrick.
Grab lunch at the famous 200 year old Campbell’s restaurant/bar. Campbell’s itself has been associated with walkers off the mountain for centuries. They cater for large groups and have plenty of group seating. We advise to book the group well in in advance to keep everyone together!
There is an option here to cycle back the 10km to Westport or to have school coach collect at Campbell’s and Paddy & Nelly will pick up the bikes!
