Family route
Highly recommended
Westport To Craogh Patrick & Bearta Beach route along the coast is highly recommended and is a regular cycle lane. There are stunning views out over Clew Bay, many points of interests and wonderful places to stop off for a photo or picnic. See our free colour Map & Brochure. We have marked out the quietest roads to use with the least traffic so kids in trailers and on a bike seat are safe. Kids cycling on their own would have to have experience, confidence and road sense. We recommend 8 to 10 years as road can be busy in places.

What to do
Beautiful scenery
Westport To Craogh Patrick & Bearta Beach route takes you through Murrisk village and hinterland coming out at Croagh Patrick. Here, there is a visitor center, coffee shop, restaurant/bar and ice cream stand selling the famous ’99 cone. The ’99 is an Irish kid’s favourite soft ice cream! An idea: with older kids (8+) lock the bike and climb the mountain (pilgrims way). Spectacular views from the Ancient Holy mountain top (3.5 hours round trip). Bertra beach is a short cycle from Croagh Patrick. Parking, coffee shop and toilets are on site. We advise you to bring plenty of water, a snack, a mobile phone and for rain and wind – a jacket or pullover. We advise this especially for the mountain climb as weather can change quickly in the summer. Saddle bags are available from our store.
