Clew Bay Bike Trail Experience

This cycle route brings you from Westport Town Center down to Westport Harbour. On the way, you’ll be taking in historic sites and the beautiful woodlands. There are lakes and rivers in the 300 acre Westport House Estate.

At the harbour we visit Heritage Center (seasonal) experience. You’ll see the history of Westport over last 300 years.

You’ll then cycle on down to the point where you are right out on Clew Bay looking out across at Croagh Patrick. This is a fantastic place for photos!

Historic Clew Bay Coastline

After the view from the harbour, the cycle tour follows the coast line out to Murrisk. Along the way, you will be passing the famous megalithic standing stones and then turns into the hinter land of Murrisk village, stopping at the old fishing harbour picnic area.

You’ll then find yourself winding through the Murrisk walk/cycle trail and you will see how locals live and farm. You will pass sea weed harvesting and cycle on then to Murrisk abbey (built 700 years ago in the 14th century). It is located on shore in Clew Bay and is very well preserved. It’s full of historic links to Croagh Patrick.

Next, a visit to the internationally known., famine monument. A testament to Ireland’s troubled past.

The final stop is at the old world Campbell’s Bar /Restaurant – a 200 year old building full of charm – with open fires, flag stone floors. and great food and drink.

Your Paddy & Nelly Bike Hire tour guide will lead you on this wonderful Clew Bay bike trail experience. They will give you the local history, stories and legends of the past. They will be available to take group photos. and answer any questions you may have!
